The Wall Between
The authors of this groundbreaking book speak to each other about how Jews and Palestinians speak (and listen) differently to each other. The “wall” they refer to is one not only of concrete, but distrust, enmity, and hate, fueling the breakdown of civil discourse in public spaces around the world. For Jews, Israel must exist; for Palestinians, the historic injustice being committed since 1948 must be reversed. Neither wants to know why the Other cannot budge on these issues. The wall is up. In this nuanced and courageous pre-recorded event, available throughout the Festival, Raja G. Khouri and Jeffrey Wilkinson begin an essential conversation for us all.

The Wall Between: Jewish and Palestinian Perspectives
The Wall Between, written by Raja G. Khouri and Jeffrey J. Wilkinson, attempts to offer tangible ways for Jews and Palestinians in the Diaspora to speak and, importantly, listen differently to each other. It examines the histories and narratives that have shaped and divided, the battles for identity influenced by fear and trauma, and the psychological and social barriers that keep Jews and Palestinians closed off from each other’s perspectives. It presents a guide for anyone who is open to new possibilities for the Israel-Palestine discourse in the West.
Raja Khouri and Jeffrey Wilkinson on What Jews and Palestinians Don’t Know About Each Other
On June 28, Peter hosted an online discussion entitled “Raja Khouri and Jeffrey Wilkinson on What Jews and Palestinians Don’t Know About Each Other.” He was joined by special guests Raja Khouri and Jeffrey Wilkinson, co-authors of the book, The Wall Between: What Jews and Palestinians Don’t Want to Know About Each Other. Since October 7, dialogue between Palestinians and Jews has become even more difficult, and there are those in both communities—and on the left and right—who question its value. Peter asked Raja and Jeffrey to respond to those criticisms, and to explain how they believe that greater dialogue between Palestinians and Jews can contribute to the struggle for equality, freedom, and safety for everyone.

The Wall Between: A Conversation with the Authors
Join us for a conversation with authors Raja Khoury and Jeff Wilkinson about their book “The Wall Between - What Jews and Palestinians Don’t Want to Know About Each Other.” The Wall Between is a book about the wall that exists between Jewish and Palestinian communities in the Diaspora. The authors utilize recent cognitive research on the psychological and social barriers that keep Jews and Palestinians in their camps, walled off from each other. They present a clear way through, one that is justice-centered, rather than trauma-and propaganda-driven.

A groundbreaking book that offers concrete ways for Jews and Palestinians to speak (and listen) differently to each other.
The Wall Between is a book about the wall that exists between Jewish and Palestinian communities in the Diaspora. Distrust, enmity, and hate are common currencies. They manifest at university campuses, schools and school boards, at political events, on social media, and in academic circles. For Jews, Israel must exist; for Palestinians, the historic injustice being committed since 1948 must be reversed. Neither wants to know why the Other cannot budge on these issues. The wall is up.
